What is PRP under-eye treatment?

PRP under-eye treatment uses platelet-rich plasma — concentrated growth factors derived from your own blood — micro-injected into the under-eye area to thicken thin skin, improve circulation, and brighten dark circles. Unlike filler, PRP doesn’t add volume; it stimulates your own tissue to rebuild. Best for patients with thin, crepey, or dark under-eye skin who don’t need (or aren’t candidates for) filler.

The under-eye is the most-asked-about area in the office and the trickiest to treat well. Filler is right for some patients; PRP is right for many others. We assess and recommend. Patients drive in from Englewood, Tenafly, and Edgewater — twelve minutes from the GWB.

How PRP under-eye works

A small blood draw (about a tablespoon) is processed in a sterile centrifuge to separate platelet-rich plasma from red blood cells. The PRP — concentrated with growth factors like PDGF, TGF-β, VEGF, and EGF — is then micro-injected into the under-eye dermis.

PRP improves vascular and skin-thickness contributors to dark circles meaningfully. It does not change pigmentation in the skin itself (pigment requires laser or topical agents) and does not correct shadow from hollowing (that’s a volume issue best addressed by filler). Many dark circles have multiple causes; we assess yours specifically.
PRP is autologous — it comes from your own body — so allergic reactions are extremely rare. The most common side effect is bruising for 5–7 days. Serious complications are very rare with proper sterile technique and physician oversight. We process PRP in-office, in a sterile field, within an hour of the draw.
Often yes — but timing matters. If you have current filler that’s settling or causing issues, we may dissolve it first. If filler is integrated and looking right, PRP is layered carefully on top. We’ll review your history and assess.
There’s a brief sting per injection point. With topical anesthetic, most patients rate it 3–4/10. The under-eye area is sensitive but the procedure is quick — the actual injection phase takes only 5–10 minutes per side. The blood draw is the longest part of the appointment.
