How Fraxel works

“Fractional” means the laser treats only a fraction of the skin’s surface in each pass — typically 20–25% — by creating microscopic treatment zones (MTZs) surrounded by intact skin. That intact skin acts as a healing reservoir, so recovery is fast.

How much does Fraxel cost in Hackensack, NJ at Aesura?

There’s a strong prickly-hot sensation during treatment. We pretreat with topical anesthesia for 60 minutes, use a Zimmer cooling unit during the pass, and post-cool with cold air. Most patients rate the discomfort 3–5/10. The laser pass itself takes 20–30 minutes.
Plan for 4–7 days of social downtime. Day 1–2 you’ll be pink and slightly swollen — like a strong sunburn. Day 3–5 the skin develops a sandpaper texture and tiny dark flecks (“MENDS”). Day 5–7 the skin sloughs and reveals a fresh tone. Makeup is fine from day 2 onward.
Carefully — yes. 1927 nm Fraxel can improve melasma (this is an off-label use), but melasma is a chronic condition that requires careful settings and pre-treatment. We use conservative parameters, often combine with skin-lightening agents for 2–4 weeks pre- and post-treatment, and counsel that maintenance is part of the plan.
Best season for Fraxel is fall through spring. The treated skin is photosensitive for several weeks, and aggressive sun exposure can drive post-inflammatory pigmentation — especially in skin types III–V. Summer treatments are possible with strict sun avoidance and SPF 50+ daily.
Yes — but in the right sequence. Botox and filler before Fraxel; allow at least 2 weeks before laser. After Fraxel, wait 4 weeks before injectables. Your provider will plan the sequence.
